Riverhorse On Main Park City, Utah – Restaurant Review

Location

Riverhorse On Main is located on, you guessed it, 540 Main Street in the heart of Park City, Utah. A culinary gem that is a bit hard to find because it is hidden with one simple sign advertising the restaurant. The search and remoteness adds to the ambiance of an up-scale restaurant. Riverhorse On Main is open seven nights a week starting at 5:00 PM for dinner.

This awarded restaurant is in hot demand with foodies, food critics, and families on vacation from around the world. To dine here during peak season (winter/summer), you must get your reservation made weeks in advance. Reservations can be made online or by calling the restaurant. There is a small remodeled bar that does not require a reservation. It is first come first serve and fills up fast, so get there early!

Highly Awarded Riverhorse On Main Park City

Riverhorse On Main is a well-known restaurant featured in Forbes Travel Guide 2019, consecutively awarded Four-Diamond Awards from the AAA, and is on the Distinguished Restaurants in America List presented by Dirona. The first restaurant in Utah to receive recognition from Dirona. This is a fine dining restaurant, that goes above and beyond with phenomenal service and food.

You will pay for the delectable food, modern venue, and exquisite service. Dinner for two people will easily put you at $200, including drinks, appetizers, and tip. I definitely feel the price is worth the experience. Riverhorse On Main is a great restaurant to celebrate a special occasion.

Aesthetics

One of the top attractions of Riverhorse On Main is its venue. There is a gorgeous full window room overlooking Main Street. The main dining room is also known as the Atrium Room has glass balls that disperse mood lighting that creates a one-of-a-kind art piece.

I was a little bummed we did not get to dine in the picturesque indoor atrium nor the glass overlook of Downtown Park City. Especially since we had one of the first reservations at 5:15 PM. The host stuck us in the back dining room. With dark lighting, limited tables, and privacy it created an intimate dining experience for my Birthday dinner.

Riverhorse On Main Park City Dress Code

While this is a fancy, upscale restaurant the dress code is “mountain casual”. You will not need to be in a suit and dress to dine here, jeans and a nice blouse will do the trick.

Riverhorse On Main Park City Menu

Executive chef and co-owner, Seth Adams sets the bar high with his upscale, seasonal, and universal dishes. The menu is comprised of 18 pages, with just three pages for food. Everything on the menu sounds and looks delicious. It is simple and easy to read. With being a highly rated restaurant, I was shocked to find the menu presented in the form of a QR Code. Paper menus are available upon request.

Appetizers are inspired by different regions of the world, from Thailand to Eastern Europe, to the spicy Southwest, you will have to order at least one. Try their Surf & Turf Tower – wagyu beef, cheddar cheese grits, smoked salmon, crisp, potato pancake, goat cheese pockets, and house-made daily jam. You will get a little bit of everything with this three-tier tower.

The Main Dishes are what really get my mouth watering! All of their entrées are unique with eclectic ingredients that change seasonally. The Local Rainbow Trout is an artistic masterpiece that actually looks like a rainbow on a plate, with a pistachio nut crust, forbidden rice, Meyer lemon fennel slaw, and pomegranate. Chef Seth Adams does an exquisite job pairing land-locked wild game with tropical fruit from the sea, making this restaurant one of a kind.

What I Ordered

Cocktail: Silver Mine Mule

After studying the lengthy drink menu and hearing a guest ooh and aah over his Moscow Mule, I decided to try the signature Silver Mine Mule. I love a good ginger-spiced mule and this one lived up to the oohs and aahs. The Sugar House Vodka was smooth with a creamy texture. My favorite part of any mule is the ginger beer. The Domaine de Canton Ginger Beer was strong did not disappoint.

Make your own Moscow Mules at home with Copper Mugs! This a great Christmas or Birthday Gift! These mugs are 100% Copper and will keep your drink cold!

Appetizer: Focaccia Bread + Herbed Butter

Complimentary of Riverhorse On Main, the warm focaccia bread with herbed butter was a great start to our dining experience. I love free food, but free food that tastes like you’re in Italy is even better! This Italian yeasted bread was textbook perfect with a soft chew interior and a crisp hard crust exterior. The finger-made dimples were the perfect pocket for the warm olive oil to nestle. The herbed butter a combination of thyme, shallots, garlic, rosemary, and white wine was the perfect spread. It will melt in your mouth and make your eyes roll back into your head.

Appetizer: Pork Pot Stickers

The pork potstickers were crunchy and scrumptious. Filled to the brim and perfectly fried, these light potstickers were the perfect appetizers. The Asian vegetable slaw was a great addition, with shaved carrots, cucumber, seaweed, and sesame seeds it added a burst of freshness. The house-made hoisin sauce drizzled on top added great umami flavor.

Main Course: Scallop & Shrimp Tom Kha

Risotto is one of my favorite carbohydrates because it is warm, hearty, and filling. The saffron risotto was creamy, excellently made, and paired well with the seared scallops and shrimp. Saffron is hard to detect with a mild flavor but it gave the rich risotto a slightly floral and sweet note.

The spicy honey shrimp added the perfect kick to this rich and creamy dish. The scallops were ginormous, meaty, and perfectly cooked with a hard sear on the outside. Tom Kha is usually a hot Thai soup made with coconut and boiling broth. This dish is not a soup but gets its name from the lemongrass coconut cream sauce. Seasonal green beans laid delicately on top adding a splash of color and freshness.

The Perfect Bite: Shrimp with a spicy honey glaze, swiped into the bed of creamy risotto, and topped with a green bean for a hint of freshness and crunch.

Main Course: Durham Ranch Buffalo Short Rib

Talk about some serious meat! This dish comes in hitting for the fences with a thick Buffalo Short Rib straight from Durham Ranch. The tender meat instantly slid off the bones with one fellow swoop. You don’t even need a knife for this meat-forward dish. The meat was juicy, tender, and melt in your mouth delicious.

One of the things I was most looking forward to with this dish was the sweet potatoes. They were a bit different than I had expected. The potatoes were seared and remained hard, a little too al-dente for my liking but they did add some needed texture to the dish. The creamed corn sent me back to my childhood. Growing up, we ate creamed corn all of the time. This creamed corn was much more elevated and I loved every bite of it. Lastly, the shallot gremolata garnish on top added great acidity and freshness to the dish.

Dessert: Riverhorse On Main Nut Brittle

Compliments of Riverhorse On Main, the Nut Brittle was the perfect sweet treat after an amazing meal. Crunchy, nutty, and sinfully sweet, a little goes a long way! This was such a nice gesture from the staff. It made our dining experience that much more memorable.
