Bangkok’s Chinatown: Where and What to Eat
Get culturally immersed in Bangkok’s Chinatown. It is a not a complete trip to Bangkok with out visiting the foodie paradise of Chinatown or Yaowarat as the locals call it. Once the sun starts to set the streets become alive with street food vendors setting up shop and hungry tourists wondering around searching for tonight’s bite. It can be a bit overwhelming, so let me point out a few of the must visit stands at Bangkok’s Chinatown.
1. Grilled Squid
This one cannot be missed when visiting Bangkok’s Chinatown. You will first notice the long line and the pile of fresh squid. Be sure to get in line and order your squid, as soon as you know what you want because it can quickly turn into a waiting game with how popular this stall is. Enjoy the show and watch them work their magic as they cook it fresh right in from of you. It comes out sizzling hot and cooked to perfection.
2. O.K. Pad Thai
One of the best pad Thai dishes I ate during my one month visit in Thailand! Its almost like a pad Thai omelet with a crispy egg crust. The delicious noodles, crunchy peanuts, juicy chicken, and a squeeze of limes comes together making one incredible bite.
3. Fresh Pomegranate Juice
You may be hunting for something to cleanse the pallet after tasting some of the spicy and flavorful foods Bangkok’s Chinatown has to offer. Head to one of the many juice stalls and get a fresh pomegranate juice. This is by far one of the best drinks you can purchase at one of the many juice stalls at Bangkok’s Chinatown.
4. Michelin Star Rolled Noodle Soup
Who would’ve thought you would be eating at a Michelin star place on the side of a busy road in a small abandon warehouse? This long standing stall is known for their rolled rice noodle soup. Order it like the locals with all the insides, yes that means the hearts, liver, and more! The broth is full of flavor and spice! Make sure to bring some water as this was quite a spicy dish!
5. Moo Satay Hia Sa
One of my favorite bites in Chinatown. These juicy chicken skewers are the perfect light snack. The spicy peanut sauce is full of flavor! A side of cucumber, onion, and chili salad is served on the side to refresh you palate after each bite.
6. Lhong Tou Cafe
You may have seen Lhong Tou Cafe on social media with its unique seating layout. This cafe utilizes their space to the max with stacked tables and benches. The food matches the fun atmosphere with authentic Thai dishes that are tasty and filling. I highly recommend tryin the Thai Lemon Tea! Lhong Tou Cafe is located on the main street of Chinatown.
7. Pa Tong Go Savoey
Dessert finishes the night off on a sweet note at the Michelin awarded, Pa Tong Go Savoey. These indulgent fried Thai donuts scream street food. It is a show in its self watching them make each and every Thai fried donut by hand.
