Alma Bar in Isla Holbox, Mexico Review

Alma Bar is located inside the Hotel Villas Tiburon beachside resort. This trendy bar is on the third floor allowing for breathtaking views of the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Alma Bar is open during the day from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Alma Bar is a one-of-a-kind rooftop bar in the charming beach town of Isla Holbox. It offers endless views of the blue waters, refreshing drinks, and small plates. The staff is friendly and takes great care of their guests with freshly made tapas and cocktails. Visit Alma Bar after strolling down the beach for a relaxing afternoon. One of the most popular times to visit is right after dinner at sunset. The blue panoramic views turn to gorgeous shades of red, orange, and yellow.
On the weekends at 3:00 PM, a DJ posts up in the top bamboo balcony that overlooks the bar area. The DJ invites people in and transforms this relaxing pool bar into a party atmosphere with deep house music.
Pool & Cabanas
The shallow pool offers a fun area to relax and cool off while sipping on your favorite cocktail. Two hammocks rest in the water for people who want to layout. On both sides of the pool, you will find two VIP cabanas. During busy times, you will need to reserve a VIP cabana. It was not busy when we were here so we got to enjoy the soft lounge area without a reservation. These are great spots to get out of the sun and still be able to enjoy the panoramic views of the crystal blue waters.
Alma Bar Menu
Alma Bar’s menu offers a long list of cocktails, whatever you want the bartenders can make it for you. They specialize in mojitos, with 14 different variations. Try something new like the Mojito Colada or the El Flamingo. Now that you have your favorite beach cocktail in hand, time to order a few small plates to munch on. The tapas menu highlights the fresh local seafood, with ceviche, guacamole, tacos, and more.
Price ($$)
With panoramic views and a pool, you would think this trendy place would be expensive but it is not! The drinks and food are set at reasonable prices. Drinks range from $50pesos – $220pesos. Small plates range from $70pesos – $400pesos. These prices are similar to most beach clubs you find along the main Holbox beach. It surprises me that this trendy rooftop bar offers amazing drinks and food at a very reasonable price. They do accept credit cards with an additional percentage fee.
What I Ordered
Margarita – $150pesos ~ $7.50USD
The original Margarita was very tasty and refreshing. It was not super sweet like some margaritas can be, the Alma Bar Margarita has a great ratio of sweet, salty, and tequila! The margarita pairs well with the freshly made colorful tacos.
Shrimp & Fish Tacos – $80pesos ~ $4.00USD each
You eat with the eyes first! The Shrimp and Fish Tacos are stunning with vibrant colors displayed on top of a dark wood board. The wood boards are cut to their original circular shapes providing the perfect dark wood border. Both tacos looked tiny when we first got them, but they pack a lot of fresh seafood inside each one.
The shrimp taco was my favorite because of the punch of flavor it packed. The shrimp was grilled to perfection with a spicy Cajun-like seasoning. The thinly sliced carrots offered a cool and refreshing crunch on top. The avocado crema added a creamy and fatty element.
The fish taco was another great bite with a fresh green tortilla, a large thick piece of grilled fish, shredded carrots, pickled onions, and avocado crema.

Outstanding experience with refreshing drinks, delicious food, great staff, and over the top panoramic views.

This is a third-floor pool bar with gorgeous views of the turquoise blue ocean. The Margaritas are delicious and hand-made right at the center bar. The tacos are small but full of flavor. We stayed here for about three hours, relaxing in the cabanas, relaxing in the pool, and sipping on our drinks.
