My Review

Rating: 5 out of 5.

As we first arrived at the Cooking Lisbon kitchen, we were welcomed with open arms by Filipe. After introducing ourselves and getting to know the other 12 cooks, we headed for the kitchen to get suited up for the fun to begin. Local chef, Miguel, was a joy to watch in the kitchen. He was always smiling and did a great job of getting everyone involved. We had a fun group that was eager to learn and have a great time.

Since the cold weather was upon us we had the pleasure of making some warm Portuguese comfort dishes. After a quick introduction of each dish, we scattered into small groups to prep the ingredients. Fernanda was an amazing hostess! She was always smiling and kept the wine bar well-stocked for endless glasses of wine throughout the class.

I had the pleasure of preparing the main dish which was Peas with Poached Eggs. The aromas were incredible… I mean how could sautéed onions, garlic, bacon, and white wine not smell good? During the cooking process, we had time to mingle and get to know everyone. We met some amazing people that we had tons in common with. After some fun chit-chat and many glasses of wine, it was time to bon appétit! We all gathered around the large table, filled our glasses of wine, and dug in.

We started off the meal with a warm bowl of Caldo Verde (Kale Soup) and crispy Pastéis de Bacalhau (Cod Croquets). These were two delicious starters that really showcase the Portuguese cuisine with shredded salted Bacalhau formed into fried croquet. They were the perfect pillow of flavor to pair with the mild kale soup. My favorite bite of the evening was the main dish – peas with poached eggs. This was a simple dish, that reminded me of Winters in Colorado. I love a bowl of warm comfort food!

This was an amazing experience that I will forever remember! I will definitely be back for more Portuguese cooking classes with Cooking Lisbon. I will also be booking more classes where ever The Gallivanting Spoon heads to next!

Thank you, Filipe and the Cooking Lisbon Team for the wonderful evening!
