Sedona’s Most Popular Swimming Hole – The Crack at Wet Beaver Creek

Sedona, Arizona

Sedona is located in Northern Arizona near Flagstaff. This small town has become a tourist destination with its steep red rock walls, Ponderosa Pine forest, and wellness retreats. Downtown Sedona offers one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants. On the outskirts of Sedona, you will find many wellness resorts with gorgeous desert landscapes. This is a great place to get outdoors and enjoy the variety of things Sedona has to offer.

When To Visit Sedona

Sedona is gorgeous any time of the year but Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons to visit. During the Fall season, the town is painted with red, orange, and yellow leaves. The warm colors printed against the red rock is an absolutely breathtaking picture. There is a small windy breeze during the fall season with cooler temperatures and fewer visitors.

Trail Tips

  1. Plan your hike on a Cool/Windy Day
  2. Sunscreen up!
  3. Download All Trails App and Google Maps
  4. Pack a good supply of water and food!
  5. Research before you go!
  6. Arrive Early!

Getting to the Trailhead

After doing quite a bit of research beforehand, we still ended up at the wrong trailhead. If you type in The Crack at Wet Beaver Creek into your Google Maps, Google maps will take you to the closest parking area to the swimming hole. This is not where you want to go. Type in Bell Trailhead and google maps will take you to a well-marked parking lot. The parking lot does fill up quickly during the summer months and weekends. There is an extra overflow parking lot just down the road if needed. Parking in either lot is free.

The Trek In

From the Bell Trailhead, you will start your journey to The Crack Swimming Hole. The hike is easy with a smooth path at the beginning. Halfway through the trail does become rocky, so make sure to wear good hiking shoes. I wore Chaco sandals for this hike and had no trouble. The 3.5-mile hike in is gorgeous with the creek running alongside and the red rock shining in the sun. Make sure to bring plenty of water because this is a very hot hike with no shade.

The Crack at Wet Beaver Creek

The Crack is a gorgeous opening in the mountainside where the creek runs through two red rock walls. After the hot hike in, all you want to do is cool off in the clear blue water. There are two ledges naturally made from the sandstone, which makes for great platforms to jump off of. The ledges are pretty high but be assured the water is well deep enough to plunge into.

If you do not want to jump in, no worries, there is an area to just get your feet wet and cool off. The water is a gorgeous green and blue color. This was a busy place when we first arrived with many groups of people sunbathing, enjoying a picnic lunch, and swimming.

Lunch Time!

I enjoyed the Lemon Delight High Protein Bar while watching others jump off the rock platforms. My Lemon Delight protein bar kept me full and gave me the energy to do some swimming and finish the hot hike back to the car. Think! Bars are the perfect snack to take on your adventures. They are high in protein with 20g per bar, low in sugar, and are delicious. The Lemon Delight is my favorite! Get your variety pack today using the link above and comment below your favorite flavor!

Overall Thoughts on Sedona’s Most Popular Swimming Hole

If you want a good hike with an all-natural swimming hole, The Crack at Wet Beaver Creek is the place to visit. You will find Sedona Swimming Holes all throughout the town. Most swimming holes are well known, located right in the center of town, and have a fee station. The Crack at Wet Beaver Creek is less crowded and completely free to enter. This was a great full-day experience. We did get quite lost at the beginning but just make sure to start the hike at Bell Trailhead. Grab your swimsuit and enjoy that cool blue water!
