Top 10 Things to do in Barcelona for Your First Time Visiting

Barcelona, Spain is one of my favorite cities in Europe. The ease of living, stunning architecture, sandy beaches, and amazing food won me over after our quick visit. Antoni Gaudí paints this bustling city with architectural works of art. The grandest of them all is the La Sagrada Familia, it will take your breath away. I cannot wait to be back in Barcelona to explore more of this wonderful city!

1. La Sagrada Familia

Designed by Antoni Gaudí, La Sagrada Familia is one of the most famous landmarks in Europe and one you do not want to miss especially if it is your first time visiting Spain. This massive project has been under construction since 1882, its estimated completion date is set for 2026. Pictures do not do this one-of-a-kind masterpiece justice. The size of it alone will take your breath away. Walk all the way around the structure to see the many different details. Then take a tour of the inside to see even more of Antoni Gaudí’s designs, purchase your tickets online before you go!

2. Brunch at Cremat

Cremat Lounge is a fun, innovative, and trendy lounge with an amazing atmosphere. A mix of textures and materials invites you in with pops of blush, turquoise, and gold colors. Their bright lit-up “Oops, I did it Again” sign catches your eye along with a large chandelier and accent mirrors throughout the space.

Cremat Lounge is the brand new “big brother” to Cremat’s other successful restaurant, Cremat 11. The lounge offers the same stunning brunch dishes with the addition of delicious tapas and main courses in the evening. This is the perfect place to meet your friends, enjoy some drinks and tasty bites.

3. Casa Batlló

Another one of Antoni Gaudí’s designs is the Casa Batlló. This was one of my favorite buildings with the unique style and pops of color. Inside is a large museum with even more architectural design as well as a small gift shop. I recommend purchasing your tickets online, they are €4.00 cheaper at €35.00 per adult and hassle-free!

4. Casa Mila

Just across from Casa Batlló is the Casa Mila “The stone quarry”, this building looks a bit similar to the Casa Batlló because it is again designed by the famous Antoni Gaudí. There are multiple ticket options, starting at €25.00 per adult. The top of Casa Mila is a whole new world with one-of-a-kind sculptures and gorgeous views.

5. Beach & Boardwalk

Barcelona’s beach is the perfect daytime activity with a long boardwalk leading to the stunning all-glass wave-shaped Marriott W Hotel. There are small shops and delicious restaurants located along the boardwalk waiting for visitors to come and order a refreshing drink. On the marina side, you will find stunning yachts that are almost too big to believe!

6. Park Güell

Park Güell is one of Barcelona’s top tourist attractions with unique buildings and structures done by Antoni Gaudí. This large green area is a nice change from the bustling city. Park Güell is located on the outskirts of the city, tickets are required for a timed entry and can be purchased online.

7. Camp Nou

Camp Nou is the largest and most famous football (soccer) stadium in Europe. Attending an FC Barcelona game is an unreal experience with the stands filled with intense and devoted fans. Tickets for a game are a bit pricier than most European matches because of how famous the stadium is. If you want to skip the game, you can just tour the stadium for a fee.

8. La Rambla Street & St. Josep Mercat

Barcelona is home to one of the best shopping areas in Europe. Make your way to Plaça de Catalunya Square to find the many large department stores, then take a walk down Rambla street. At night the street becomes alive with bright lights, bustling people, and food stands lining the street. Stop by the St. Josep Mercat (La Boqueria) and grab a small bite and a drink! *The market is closed on Sundays.

9. Take a Ride on the Telefèric de Montjuïc

The Telefèric de Montjuïc is a Barcelona Cable Car that spans 75 meters in the air transporting you from Montjuïc Park to the top of Montjuïc Hill. During your gondola ride, take in the views of the city and the Balearic Sea. Montjuïc Castle sits on top of the hill with an intricate stone facade and lush green gardens. One round trip ticket for an adult will cost €14.20.

10. Arc de Triomf

This massive red arc is a stunning piece of art that once was the entrance gate to the World Fair in 1888. Take a walk through the arc and head towards Ciutadella Park. Ciutadella Park is a huge park with art sculptures, ponds, and green grass.
