Big John’s Texas BBQ in Page, Arizona Restaurant Review
Big John’s Texas BBQ Location
Big John’s Texas BBQ is located on the corner of Lake Powell Boulevard and Navajo Drive in Page, Arizona. Page is an Indian desert town that fills up with tourists year-round. Travelers flock here to see the famous landmarks of Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell, and Antelope Canyon. What was once a gas station is now an awarding winning Texas BBQ Restaurant. Big John’s is open seven days a week 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
Best BBQ Restaurant in Page
Big John’s Texas BBQ is a casual restaurant serving up mouth-watering smoked meats and homemade Texas BBQ sides. Previously this venue was a gas station, Big John’s has kept the original structure and has turned it into an indoor/outdoor restaurant. Three large meat smokers are the first thing that catches your eye… and nose with the smell of slow-cooked smoked meat rolling off these bad boys. Inside has a retro vibe with red and white checkered table cloths and rustic car signs.
Outside you will find an old fashion truck with Big John’s Texas BBQ written on the side. Its eclectic design is warm, fun, and welcoming. Our servers were friendly, laid back, attentive, and quick. They provided great service during our meal. Seating is a bit limited inside but there are many picnic tables outside under the covered patio.
Big John’s Texas BBQ Menu
The menu at Big John’s Texas BBQ is simple, easy to read, and includes pictures for every single dish. Big John’s serves up all of the classic BBQ dishes; pulled pork sandwiches, rack of ribs, and slow-cooked brisket. All meats are smoked and slowly cooked in their smokers that are right outside the front door. The wood smokers is a great selling point because you know you are getting good quality slow-cooked meats.
BBQ restaurants are usually on the pricey end because of how meat-forward the cuisine is and the time and work that goes into creating a juicy piece of meat. Here at Big John’s Texas BBQ, you will not have to break out the checkbook for your meal. You can be looking to spend about $15 per person for just food, a great price for a delicious BBQ meal. Traveling with little ones? Big John’s Texas BBQ has you covered with smaller plates for kids at just $5.75.
Nobody can forget dessert, Big John’s also offers homemade desserts. A variety of delicious ice cream flavors can be hand scooped to finish off the meal with something sweet. They also offer a fresh-baked fruit cobbler, chocolate brownie, and a root beer float. Beer and wine is also available for purchase.
What I Ordered
Big John’s Texas BBQ Sampler – $19.75
Chopped Beef Brisket
The chopped beef brisket is one of my favorite bites of the sampler. It is juicy, tender, and full of flavor. You will not need to add any BBQ sauce to this moist and succulent meat.
Pulled Pork
Home smoked pulled pork is a classic and Big John’s does it justice. The pulled pork is delicious with a squirt of housemade BBQ sauce and topped with coleslaw.
Spicy Link Sausage
A full smoked link sausage adds the perfect spice to this array of Texas BBQ. The sausage is tender, smokey, and not greasy at all.
2 Baby Back Pork Ribs
The best bite! These slow-cooked baby back ribs are full of flavor and fall right off the bone. Drizzle a little of the original BBQ sauce on it and go to town. I highly suggest getting at least a half rack of these.
Cowboy Beans
Cowboy beans are pinto beans that are cooked with ground beef and a sauce similar to BBQ sauce. Growing up in Colorado, I have had my fair share of Cowboy beans. Big John’s cowboy beans were good but not one of my favorites, I found them lacking in flavor.
Coleslaw
I absolutely loved the coleslaw. It added freshness to the plate. Big John’s does their coleslaw right by using small chopped cabbage, crunch shredded carrot, a light cream dressing, and celery seed.
*The Texas BBQ Sampler can easily feed two people. We shared this platter and were happily content after our meal.
