An Authentic Dinner at El Atrio in Valladolid, Mexico

El Atrio

El Atrio in Valladolid Restaurant Review

El Atrio

Location

El Atrio is located in a prime location right next to El Centro in Valladolid, Mexico. We received many recommendations to visit this restaurant. I usually shy away from restaurants right next to the tourist attractions because of the overpriced average food, but not at El Atrio! El Atrio is open all day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, 7:00 AM – 11:30 PM.

Type of Restaurant

El Atrio is an authentic upscale Yucatan restaurant in Valladolid. The decor is warm and inviting with intricate Spanish tiles, white table cloths, and brick accent columns. There is a lovely outdoor patio on the backside of the restaurant. Get here early to dine on the patio to enjoy the exotic plants, water features, and stone statues!

The service was good, but a bit pushy when taking our order. The servers are very to the point and quick. We had three different people waiting on us which became confusing with multiple people asking for our order after we had already ordered.

The Menu

The menu at El Atrio offers a wide variety of food from authentic Yucatan dishes to Italian classics. In the morning there are breakfast packages with juice, coffee, breakfast entrees, and fruit. If you are looking to just grab a drink and a snack there is a small section of Mayan snacks to munch on. For lunch and dinner, there are many entrées to chose from with a range of categories like Mayan specials, land and sea, and vegetarian. The Italian pasta bowls are ginormous with your choice of toppings. El Atrio also offers a great selection of fine-cut meats like Rib-Eye and T-Bone steaks.

Price ($$)

El Atrio is moderately priced with lunch and dinner entrees ranging from $7USD – $22USD. The drinks are on the higher end for this city with cocktails starting at $8USD. They do charge for water so watch out for those extra fees! Credit cards are accepted here but cash is preferred due to the credit card fees.

What I Ordered

Salsa Trio – Complimentary

The complimentary Yucatan salsa trio and homemade chips were a great start to our dinner. This was one of my favorite parts of the meal because of the unique pumpkin seed salsa. The Sikil P’ak (pumpkin seed salsa) is a Yucatan tradition and a must-try food when visiting the area.

Valladolid

Longaniza de Valladolid – $145pesos ~ $7.25USD

one of my favorite Yucatan foods is the savory Longaniza sausage. Longaniza sausage is similar to chorizo but has a smoky and sweetness to it. I really enjoyed how compact the sausage was without a lot of grease. This was a great dish with grilled red and yellow onions, fresh homemade tortillas, avocado, salad, and refried beans. I cut the sausage up and built mini tacos with all of the accompaniments and topped it off with some pumpkin salsa. The warm pumpkin spices paired well with the smoked notes in the sausage.

Valladolid Food

Mixed Fajitas – $189pesos ~ $9.45USD

The beef and chicken fajitas were delicious. The chicken and beef meats were flavorful and juicy. This was a great price for the portions and accompaniments. I love the required assembly with fajitas because it gets you interacting with your food and makes it taste that much better. The fresh guacamole and refried beans paired well with the mixed meats, onions, and peppers. Add some of the green salsa verde on top of your built taco for the ultimate bite!
