Madame Ushi Japanese Restaurant in Aspen Review
Downtown Aspen Location
Madame Ushi is located in the heart of downtown Aspen, Colorado. This new Japanese restaurant adds a spark to the Hyman Avenue collection of upscale shops, one of a kind restaurants, and historic landmarks. After a full day on the slopes and a relaxing massage, Madame Ushi is the perfect place to enjoy an upscale dinner and creative cocktails.
About Madame Ushi
Aesthetics
This one of a kind restaurant is an absolute show stopper with hand painted walls, sleek green velvet chairs, and warm lit table lamps. The open bar is a great focal point and conversation piece when watching the talented bartenders mix up clean crafted cocktails with unique ingredients.
Madame Ushi Menu
A well-curated menu at Madame Ushi features Japanese influenced dishes as well as a few surprises. There are also dishes like chicken and waffles interspersed throughout the menu, perhaps just what you need after a long day at Aspen Mountain. There is a great selection of nigiri and sashimi along with classic steak cuts. Ask the well-versed sommelier for a wine pairing to accentuate these delicious offerings.
Night Club
On select nights, Madame Ushi opens their upscale night club to reservations. This is a separate space from their main dining room with neon lights, low lying tables, and lounge seating. There is a small stage that hosts some well-known local artists as well as big names in the music industry.
Top of the Line Service
The service at this upscale Japanese restaurant in Aspen is top notch with multiple well dressed waiters and waitresses serving our table throughout the evening. Each individual was very friendly, professional, and attentive. Upon arrival, you have the option to check your coat, which is a nice touch especially in Aspen’s winter months.
The Meal
Small Bites – Miso Soup and Edamame
To begin our dining experience at Madame Ushi, we started with a warm bowl of miso soup and spiced edamame. This was a great way to initiate our taste buds for the upcoming Japanese inspired dinner.
Main Course – New York Strip Steak, Scallops with Foie Gras, Crispy Brussel Sprouts
The menu offers a wide variety of steaks, mains, and some tasty sides. We decided to go with a mix of seafood and land. The New York Strip was cooked to perfection with a hard sear on the outside. Flaked sea salt was a greatly welcomed garnish on top.
One of the best bites of the night was hands down the scallops with foie gras. The scallops were tender and packed with warm dynamic flavors. The foie gras added richness and a nice buttery flavor to the delicate scallops.
After numerous people raving about the crispy brussels sprouts, we knew we had to order them. They did not disappoint! The brussels sprouts were crispy and delightful with a topping of bonito flakes and crisp sliced scallions.
Pallet Cleanse
A well plated pallet cleanse was the perfect transition from the meaty rich main courses to our delicate and tender scallop sashimi. The unique cleanse included strawberry, thinly sliced chilled fish, and a tart fruity marinade.
Sashimi – Scallop
The scallop sashimi came out with a gorgeous presentation on a transparent glass vessel. The scallops were well prepared with a mouth full of tenderness and freshness.
Dessert – Yuzu Cheesecake, Espresso Ice Cream, Paired with Plum Sake
Saving the best for last, that is dessert of course! This was a special dessert with light yuzu cheesecake and my absolute favorite, espresso ice cream. Both paired perfectly with the light Plum Sake. I highly recommend trying the Plum Sake because of its unique lightness and hint of sweetness!
Madame Ushi Review – Overall Rating
