Salmon in a Creamy Dijon Chive Sauce – Cook Time
- Total Time: 30 Minutes
- Actual Time: 30 Minutes
The Salmon in a Creamy Dijon Chive Sauce took the exact amount of time HelloFresh recommended… well it would have if I hadn’t turned off the oven when adding the zucchini to the potatoes for baking. It was date night and I wanted to cook a healthy meal with my boyfriend.
We worked together going through each step of the recipe. With some music, wine, and dancing we conquered this dish in about 30 minutes. Overall, this was an easy and seamless dish to prepare. Make an at-home date night dinner special and get some matching aprons to wear in the kitchen!
Price per Serving – $7.99 + Shipping
The Salmon in a Creamy Dijon Chive Sauce cost us $7.99 per serving plus a few dollars for shipping, altogether about $18 for a delicious date night dinner. I am surprised this dish is not one of the more expensive gourmet meals because of the 10 ounces of Atlantic Salmon.
The ingredient list is short and not the most exciting but the meaty salmon filets make up for it. I like to stretch the $7.99 by selecting meals that I would not normally eat or have the ingredients for. Asian and Greek cuisines seem to be the best HelloFresh meals to get people out of their comfort zone with uncommon ingredients.

Read the Recipe
This Salmon in a Creamy Dijon Chive Sauce meal is a level 1 difficulty, meaning an easy and quick dish. This was a very simple, straightforward, and easy-to-follow recipe. HelloFresh does a great job of spreading out the cooking process into steps. Date night fun includes working together, drinking wine, reading the recipe, and saying check when a step is complete. We read the recipe twice and divided up the steps depending on our culinary strengths. Or you can change it up and switch tasks to teach one another and learn something new in the kitchen.
Mise en place
Mise en place is a French term meaning to put everything in its place. In the culinary world, it is setting up your workstation: equipment is set out, vegetables are cut, ingredients are measured. After reading the instructions we got everything out and prepared. Once the zucchini and potatoes were sliced, chives were mined, and lemon zested, we were ready to start the cooking!

Time to Cook Salmon in a Creamy Dijon Chive Sauce
Cooking the Meal
The Salmon in a Creamy Dijon Chive Sauce recipe has six steps and within those steps, there is a list of instructions. We got everything out and prepared at the beginning before any cooking began. This allows more time to perfect the bake on the potatoes and zucchini. The salmon is a delicate piece of meat, that does not take long to cook, so make sure to keep an eye on it!
Since I turned off the oven, when adding the zucchini to the sheet pan and didn’t notice until 10 minutes later, the sauce and salmon were done cooking before the vegetables were finished. Not a problem though, this gave time for some early clean-up. The sauce reduced a bit too much but we just added water to bring it back to our desired consistency and it still tasted fabulous.
HelloFresh Tip:
When all elements of the meal are not finished at the same time, do not sweat! You will still get that hot perfectly cooked meal. If the protein is finished before everything else, take it off the pan, grill, or oven and let it rest while everything else finishes cooking. Then right before you serve the meal, pop it back in the oven, pan, or oven (with the heat turned off) for just two minutes. It will warm up the protein without overcooking it.
Another great tip and something that adds to the meal is to warm your plates. Set your oven to the lowest temperature, slide your oven-safe dishware in for 2-3 minutes. Your meal will be served on a nice hot plate that keeps your food warm throughout the meal.
Making it Our Own
To jazz things up, use infused olive oils for roasting your vegetables and starches. For our salmon dinner, we used organic olive oil infused with rosemary to roast our zucchini and potato wedges. It added an extra hint of flavor.
*This was right before I knocked the glass bottle over and olive oil going everywhere. I was very happy we got the infused olive oil onto our food before I made this gigantic mess in the kitchen.

This was a light and refreshing meal. Higher in calories than I had expected but well worth it. This dish offers a balanced macronutrient content hitting all three categories. A little high in fat with 55 grams but that can be expected with the salmon and rich creamy sauce. You can always cut down on the fat by adding less butter or oil to any sauces or dressings. The salmon is a great source of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and B-Vitamins.
Taste
The Salmon in a Creamy Dijon Chive Sauce dish was flavorful, healthy, and filling. This is not one of my most favorite salmon dishes that I have received from HelloFresh but it was good. It is a very simple meal with good quality ingredients. The hard sear on the salmon was perfection and added great texture. The potato wedges were nothing special, but the rosemary-infused olive oil helped add a bit more flavor.
Once the zucchini was finally cooked, it was tender and a great side to accompany the salmon filet. One of my biggest beefs, or should I say “fish”, about some of HelloFresh’s meals is that they deliver two different sized filets/steaks. The portions are not equal. We are the sharing couple so we cut a chunk off of the larger piece to balance out the meals.
The sauce is one of the best parts of this dish. It was easy to make and brought all three elements together. With seven simple ingredients and a quick 2-3 minute cook time, this sauce is a great go-to for any meal you make, whether it is HelloFresh or not. I dipped everything in the sauce! We enjoyed our meal at the table with a glass of Cabernet, some travel planning, and two lit candles.
Finishing the Night Off
While this was a great dish, we were still a bit hungry but this could’ve just been our sweet tooth’s talking. So we pulled out some ice cream, added our favorite toppings, and plopped down on the couch to watch some YouTube by the fire. Kara and Nate are our favorite vloggers at the moment. They are a fun couple to watch for anything travel and have given us the inspiration to plan a big Spring Road Trip in April. We absolutely love them!
