Fox Run Café – The Best Breakfast in Denver

Fox Run Café

Fox Run Café in Denver, Colorado Review

Location

Fox Run Café is located along the bustling Colfax Avenue in Denver, Colorado. The restaurant offers indoor/outdoor seating with a large overhead garage door opening up to the street. Fox Run Café is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM for breakfast and lunch. The café does not accept reservations.

Type of Restaurant

Fox Run Café is a casual breakfast and lunch café. The modern retro décor invites you in and makes you feel right at home. The restaurant’s name and concept resembles Owner, Lucien Reichert’s childhood home that was located on Fox Lane. It was a place where friends and family could come over and make themselves feel at home. Whether they wanted a drink or a meal they were free to help themselves and enjoy each other’s company.

Throughout the restaurant, you will find eclectic touches like fox figurines. Lucien firmly believes in good hospitality and providing great service to his guests. During our visit, Lucien was working in the front of the house, serving food and interacting with his guests.

“Fox Run Café was designed to evoke a feeling that you’re amongst friends and family. So, come on in and make yourself at home.”

– Owner, Lucien Reichert

The Menu

Fox Run’s menu highlights traditional wholesome breakfast and lunch fare. Owner, Lucien Reichert is well-traveled and found inspiration for the menu during his travels to Europe and across the United States. He wanted to keep the menu and dishes simple while being of the highest quality. The café uses high-quality and locally sourced ingredients with a rotating menu. Seasoned pastry chef and general manager, Kelsey is the creator of each and every pastry, bread, and sweet treat that comes from the café. Alcoholic cocktails are also available and pair well with the wholesome breakfast and lunch dishes.

What I Ordered

Queen City Drip Coffee – $3.50

To start the morning off right I enjoyed Fox Run’s Queen City Drip Coffee. It was everything I wanted; dark, hot, and bold!

Lemon Ricotta Pancakes – $14.00

The best bite of the morning was the delicate lemon ricotta pancakes. The lemon ricotta pancake was light, thin, and fluffy with just the right amount of tang from the lemon and ricotta. House-made strawberry jam was chunky and sweet. I really enjoyed the white chocolate almond streusel sprinkled on top. It added an extra element of texture and sweetness. I may have to still this idea when making pancakes at home! On the side, was a schmear of light vanilla bean creme fraiche whip.

Perfect Bite: Lemon ricotta pancake topped with fruity strawberry jam, crunchy almond streusel, warm maple syrup, and topped with a dollop of creme fraiche whip.

Whipped Feta Toast – $8.00

To change things up from the usual avocado toast, I tried the whipped feta toast. This was a great dish with a mix of flavors and textures. The fluffy house-baked sourdough was the perfect vessel for the creamy whipped feta. I loved how tangy the whipped feta paired with each topping. The roughly chopped toasted pistachio added a rustic charm to the plate with crunch and nuttiness. A drizzle of honey ties this dish together with a hint of sweetness.

Breakfast Burrito – $13.00

The breakfast burrito is one of Fox Run’s most ordered dishes, and I now know why! The burrito has stuffed with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, fried potatoes, and sausage. Vegetarian green chili ties each element together and adds a nice mild spice. This was one of the best breakfast burritos I have ever tasted!

*If you like spice, order a side of their bright red house-made hot sauce to dabble on top.

Grilled Banana Bread – $5.00

Owner Lucien, wouldn’t let us leave his café without having us try one of their signature dishes, the grilled banana bread. I am a huge fan of banana bread and had high expectations. Fox Run Café’s surpassed my expectations. The bread was cut thick and grilled with a spread of butter on either side. My mouth was watering as I cut into it, releasing the steam and sweet banana aromas. The outside was toasted to perfection and had a nice crunch while the inside was warm and soft.
