Your #1 Kuala Lumpur Travel Guide
Kuala Lumpur is the capitol of Malaysia located in the middle of Southeast Asia. Being a large city centrally located it is a popular destination to visit. KL, short for Kuala Lumpur, has it all – tall sky scrappers, endless food options, one of a kind tourist landmarks, with lush greenery mixed in. I quickly fell in love with KL because of the diversity it offers and ease of living at a very affordable price. With my Kuala Lumpur Travel Guide I hope you will fall in love with this amazing Malaysia city.
Getting To Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur’s International Airport is located a bit far from the city but no worries there are plenty of options to reach your destination. Grab is the most popular online rideshare in Malaysia, it is very easy to use and affordable especially if you are traveling with more than one person. There is also a taxi counter on the ground transportation floor if you would like to utilize a local transportation service.
Your second option is the cheapest but will take some time. There are multiple airport bus companies offering cheap tickets into the city. Tickets can be purchased at the many airport bus ticketing counters. *Do note where the drop off location is in correlation to your chosen accommodation.
One step up from the airport bus is the Skypark Link. This express train is quite a bit more expensive than the bus but it is much faster as you will not have to deal with KL traffic. The sky trains leave frequently and depart directly from the airport. For current prices and timetables visit the Skypark Link Website.
Accommodation
Kuala Lumpur is home to some amazing hotels! They offer a little bit of everything from one of a kind boutique hotels to high end exclusive stays. A few of my favorites are KLoe Hotel and The Chow Kit. These two hotels offer exquisite service in a unique space that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. KLoe Hotel is located near Bukit Bintang, the shopping distract of KL, it is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the creative city life. The Chow Kit is on the opposite side of the city allowing for visitors to grasp the culture and local feel.
Where to Eat
Kuala Lumpur is one massive city with amazing food. The mix of cultures brings a variety of delicious food. If you are staying at either of the two hotels previously mentioned, KLoe Hotel and The Chow Kit, I highly recommend dining at their onsite restaurants. The Chow Kit Kitchen is highly rated and one of my favorites for a low lit romantic dinner. Monroe is a casual fun diner inside the KLoe Hotel offering a mix of sharing plates that spike a conversation.
A “top” thing to do in Kuala Lumpur is to dine at one of the many rooftop lounges. Helipad is one of my favorites. It is quite a unique bar because it is an actual helipad during the day, then at night turns into an open air lounge offering some amazing city views.
Inside Pavilion Shopping Mall in Bukit Bintang is a large Food Court. It is home to any and every type of food you could imagine. My two favorite stalls are The Fish Bowl and Stuff’d.
Things To Do in Kuala Lumpur
One of the must see landmarks in Kuala Lumpur is the Petronas Towers. These skyscraping towers is an iconic symbol of KL and the tallest twin towers in the world. Lake Symphony is located right in front of the Petronas Towers and offers a full fountain light show in the evenings. This is a free show that happens every hour between 8:00PM and 10:00PM.
From the Petronas Towers head to KLCC Park. This massive park offers a great escape from the skyscrapers with lush greenery and wide open spaces. There is a kids playground, swimming pools, running paths and more. Next to the park is the KLCC Aquarium, a great place to escape the heat and can be enjoyed by all ages.
Shop unit your drop at Bukit Bintang. This large area houses some of the largest malls in the country with high end stores, movie theatres, endless food options, and markets. You can seriously spend a whole day here. Berjaya Times Square has an amusement park in it making it the perfect place for families to spend the day.
The Batu Caves are located a bit far the city center but an easy Grab ride and you will be there in no time. Climb the 272 steps to the top to see he limestone batu caves. You will need to dress appropriately, women must cover their shoulders and knees.
KL Tower is another top tourist attraction. This telecommunication tower stretches 15 stories in the air, the tallest in Malaysia. Many tourists flock here to view the tower from the outside and from the observation deck, but if you are feeling really adventurous, you can repel down the outside! While at the KL Tower be sure to visit the Upside-down House and Echo Park.
